The Naples based Mahaan Aasha Foundation and Chef Asif Syed have partnered for a fundraiser at 21 Spices to benefit the flood victims in Kerala, India. At the beginning of July 2018, severe floods affected the south Indian state of Kerala, due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season.Over 483 people died, 14 are still missing. At least a million people were evacuated and all 14 districts of the state were placed on red alert. According to the Kerala government, one-sixth of the total population of Kerala had been directly affected by the floods and related incidents.
Michelle Stephens, founder of the Mahaan Aasha foundation stated: “Our mission and cause is focusing on supporting orphanages and other institutions who help children in need in India. These catastrophic floods have had a tremendous impact on the people and their families living in India. As a charity, we feel the obligation to do whatever we can to help those people in those desperate times. Therefore we decided in collaboration with chef Asif to do this fundraiser in order to make a humble contribution to the victims of the floods.”
“As a native Indian, I watch the news from Kerala with great concern. I am happy to be able to give something back to my countrymen in need” says chef Asif. “We will be offering a special Kerala themed 3-course menu for $32 per person. We will also have entertainment like Henna Artist, Bollywood Dancers and a raffle with special prizes.” The fundraiser will be also sponsored by John Craig Clothier and OHM Jewelry. Proceeds of this event will be directly donated to an emergency fund for the Kerala flood victims. Guests can reserve their seats via email at Michel@21spicesdining.com or by calling (239) 919-8830
